Rebel Playhouse originally presented the NYC premiere of the musical OLD TURTLE AND THE BROKEN TRUTH, with a book by Catherine Bush, music and lyrics by Dax Dupuy, and based on the book by Douglas Wood. Directed and choreographed by Sarah Sutliff with musical direction by Dax Dupuy, in May 2017. The production will enjoy a remount at The Theater at the 14th Street Y in May of 2019.
In OLD TURTLE AND THE BROKEN TRUTH, a truth falls like a star from the sky and breaks into two pieces. When the villagers discover only half of the truth, it causes so many problems that Little One, a brave young girl, decides to search for the missing half. With the help of Old Turtle, and many animal friends, Little One is able to mend the broken truth and make it whole again - "you are loved...and so are they" - creating a better world for everyone. OLD TURTLE AND THE BROKEN TRUTH is powerful allegory about accepting and welcoming differences, which will resonate with children and adults alike, particularly at a time when the world is doing otherwise. (Recommended for ages 6 and up.)
OLD TURTLE AND THE BROKEN TRUTH was nominated for two 2017 New York Innovative Theatre Awards: Outstanding Musical, and Sarah Sutliff was nominated for Outstanding Choreography/Movement.

Corrado Alicata* (Lumberjack) is happy to be back with Rebel Playhouse and Old Turtle and the Broken Truth for his second time. Claire Anderson (Fox) is thrilled to be back in the Turtle family for the third time! She is a graduate of Atlantic Acting School and holds a BFA in Acting from Stephens College. Her recent credits include Convention with Atlantic, Wagner’s Ring Cycle with the Houston Grand Opera, Ravenscroft with Mildred’s Umbrella, Madeline's Christmas, Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Magic School Bus Live! (Tour), A Little House Christmas with Main Street Theater in Houston, as well as various commercial and short films.
Arielle Gonzalez (Miner) is a Latinx singer, actor, dancer, and stand-up comedian! Arielle is a resident company member (Bat) at The Flea and has been seen in their productions of: good friday, Not My Monster!, LOCKED UP B****S, ms. estrada, and Flea Fridays. She assistant directed Small Mouth Sounds at Ars Nova under Rachel Chavkin. Other Credits include: Old Turtle and the Broken Truth (Dorothy Strelsin Theatre), Pedo Reye's Doomocracy (Brooklyn Army Terminal), The Fall (2016 NYCFringe), The Visitors (B.O.S.S.S Festiva)l, The Matter 2012 (St. Mark’s Church), and Love Awkwardly (Manhattan Theatre Source). Kevin Lozano (Blacksmith) is so excited to be making his New York theatre debut with the cast of Old Turtle and the Broken Truth. Originally from South Florida, Kevin moved to New York after graduating with a Masters in Vocal Performance from the University of Southern Mississippi. Previous theatre credits include Etienne in La cage aux folles, Pish-Tush in The Mikado, Marullo in Rigoletto, and A-rab in West Side Story.
Laura McCullagh (Farmer) is thrilled to debut on an NYC stage with Rebel Playhouse. Previous performance credits include Fragments (Woman 3), Who Will Carry The Word (Berthe), As You Like It (Phebe), and Rumors (Chris Gorman). Laura graduated from Skidmore College with a degree in Theater in 2017, and studied Commedia dell’arte and physical theater at the Academia dell’Arte in Arezzo, Italy.
Michaela Moore (Wife) is a native of Biloxi, MS, and a graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi. She has performed regionally in musical theatre and opera across the United States. Notable credits include Freaky Friday (Circa ‘21 Dinner Playhouse); Geeks! the Musical (Off-Broadway); Rock of Ages (Hub City Players); and The Spitfire Grill (Carey Dinner Theatre). She is thrilled to join the Rebel Playhouse family!

Reanna Roane (Raccoon) is an actor, performance artist, director, and novice gardener. They recently completed an artistic fellowship with Betty’s Daughter Arts Collaborative and residency at Judson Memorial Church. They currently work with the CUNY Creative Arts Team as a workshop facilitator using issue-based drama. Mijon Zulu (Father) is from Rockland County, NY and is half Zimbabwean and half Barbadian. A trained classical singer he made his debut NYC theatrical performance with Rebel Playhouse’s 2017 Premiere of Old Turtle and The Broken Truth. Other theatrical work includes The Cave: a Folk Opera (Edwin) at The Access Theatre and The Color Purple (Guard/Grady) at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina.
Dax Dupuy (Composer/Musical Director/Old Turtle) is a composer/lyricist based in Brooklyn. Her work includes: Clementine: The Musical, The Fantastical Dangerous Journey of Q, Old Turtle and the Broken Truth, Frosty, Twas the Night Before Christmas, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Jingle All the Way, and Mother Goose: The Musical. Her musicals have toured internationally with the Barter Players and TheatreWorks USA, and have been produced by numerous theatres across the country. Sarah Sutliff (Director/Choreographer) is a graduate of Wagner College and the Atlantic Acting School. Sarah has choreographed for Saratoga Children’s Theatre and directed for the Shenendehowa Summer Adventure theater program. She directed and choreographed Rebel Playhouse’s inaugural production Old Turtle and the Broken Truth in 2017, which was nominated for New York Innovative Theatre Awards in the categories of Best Musical and Best Choreography.
